About the Artist

Gina Masseno is a Seattle-based printmaker who specializes in traditional etching techniques. She studied Visual Art and Italian Language at Sarah Lawrence College before moving to Italy to complete a professional training program in etching at Il Bisonte, an international graphic art school and gallery located in the San Niccolò district of Florence.
Although skilled in the use of multiple etching techniques, Masseno favors processes that best highlight her interest in the beauty and precision of natural science illustration, natural history, and the aesthetic values of the Art Nouveau movement. Recurring themes within her work include anthropomorphism, internal structures seen inside out, the idea of collecting and the way in which humans (re)organize/store these collections (i.e. curiosity cabinets, tattoos, natural history museums, specimen storage), architecture, large mammals, and death.
